Stockpile Scan
Privacy policy
Stockpile Scan is made by Laan Labs. The app has no account and sends nothing to us. Your scans are processed and kept on your iPhone. Only the map and address features send anything off it without you sharing, and this page says exactly what.
In short
-
Free, with no account. No ads, subscriptions or in-app purchases.
-
Nothing sent to us by the app. No analytics, crash reporting or tracking of our own. Apple shares crash reports with us only if you’ve opted in.
-
Scans stay on your iPhone. They’re processed there and leave only when you share them.
-
Maps use the scan’s location. Apple receives it for maps and street addresses.
What we collect
Nothing directly. Laan Labs has no servers the app talks to, and the app has no analytics, crash reporting, advertising or tracking of our own. The only app data that can reach us comes from Apple, if you opt in (next section).
Crash reports and statistics from Apple
If you’ve turned on Share with App Developers (Settings › Privacy & Security › Analytics & Improvements), Apple may share crash reports and usage statistics for Stockpile Scan with us, such as how often the app is opened. Apple collects these, not the app, and says they don’t identify you personally. Apple also gives us App Store figures such as download counts. We use them only to fix problems and improve the app. You can turn Share with App Developers off at any time.
What stays on your iPhone
Everything a scan is made of stays inside the app:
- photos, LiDAR depth (when your iPhone has it) and the camera’s tracked positions;
- the 3D models, volumes, borders and measurements;
- GPS positions from recording, if Tag GPS During Scan is on and location is allowed (photos aren’t geotagged);
- your iPhone model, iOS and app versions, and processing times;
- a scan name taken from its street address (see Apple, below).
Scans also show in the Files app (On My iPhone › Stockpile Scan) and in Finder on a connected Mac.
Permissions
- Camera (and LiDAR, when your iPhone has it), to scan.
- Location while using the app, to record where a scan was taken, for maps, the report and real-world exports. It’s asked for only when Tag GPS During Scan, in Capture Settings, is on (the default). iOS shows location in use while the camera screen is open, but positions are saved only while you record.
- Temporary precise location, if you’ve allowed only approximate location.
- Adding to Photos, only when you choose Save Image or Save Video while sharing an export. The app can’t see your library.
Declining location, or turning off Tag GPS During Scan in Capture Settings, still lets you scan and measure, just without maps, addresses or geo-referenced exports. The app doesn’t read your photos or ask for your microphone, contacts or Bluetooth, or to track you.
Apple Maps and addresses
When a scan has GPS positions, your iPhone sends its location directly to Apple, never to us, under Apple’s Privacy Policy:
- Address lookup: after each recording, to name the scan; also when you open Rename or build a report with location.
- Map images: opening a report with Include Location on (the default) loads a satellite and a street map of the area.
- View on Map: in a scan’s More menu or the library’s selection bar, shows where the scan was taken on Apple Maps, which loads map images of the area.
Turn off Tag GPS During Scan before scanning to avoid all of these, or turn off Include Location in the report options to stop the report’s.
Processing on your iPhone
The 3D model, volume, texture and material detection are all worked out on your iPhone. Material detection and name suggestions use Apple’s on-device image recognition and, where available, its on-device language model. Your photos and 3D data are never uploaded for any of this.
Sharing is your choice
Reports and exports leave your iPhone only when you share them, and go only where you send them.
- The PDF report always shows the scan’s name, date and time, iPhone model and app version, a 3D view of the pile and its surroundings, and photos from the scan on its Photo Check page. With Include Location on, it adds the coordinates, maps, street address and an Apple Maps link. Turn it off to leave those out, and rename the scan if its name is its address.
- KMZ, geo-referenced LAS and All Data exports include the location. All Data is the whole scan folder, photos, GPS track and device details included.
The app writes to the clipboard only when you tap Copy, and never reads it.
Deleting your data
Delete a scan in the app to remove it, or delete the app to remove everything it stored. iCloud and computer backups of your iPhone include your scans, under the backup settings you control. The app sends us nothing, so we hold no scans or personal data from it. If you’ve emailed us and want those emails deleted, ask at labs@laan.com.
Children
Stockpile Scan is a work tool, not directed at children, and we don’t knowingly collect information from children.
